DESCRIPTION

Feature a bit of traditional Palestinian art as part of your everyday routine. Our culture, after all, is part of our resistance!

  • The illustration on the pouch is an original Watan design featuring the lyrics of an old Palestinian folk song, "Ya Tal3een Al-Jabal", against a background of pastel blue and peach.
  • The story behind this song is fascinating! According to famed musician Rim Banna, the song was used during the time of the British Mandate; although it had existed earlier, we don't necessarily have records to give the original meaning to the song. The women of a village would sing this song up to the British prison to signal to their imprisoned men that the resistance was coming to free them. The lyrics may seem confusing at first when read/heard in Arabic because of the various repeated "L's" used throughout. To the non-native (and indeed, sometimes native) speaker, these repeated "L's" sounded very much liked celebratory ululation; this, then, disguised the true meaning and intention of the song.
