DESCRIPTION

  • A high-resolution print of an original Watan illustration.
  • The Fawn’s Meadow | مرج الخشف draws inspiration from the ceramic traditions of Kütahya and İznik, particularly the visual language that became rooted in Jerusalem through the work of Armenian ceramicist David Ohanessian and the historic ceramic workshops he established there.
  • The central gazelle motifs were inspired by a historical Jerusalem ceramic bowl depicting a gazelle and its fawn, then reimagined into an entire landscape.
  • At the heart of the piece are two parent gazelles sheltering their young. The title is intentional: so much of what we preserve, protect, teach, and carry forward is ultimately for the next generation. The meadow becomes a vision of continuity, belonging, and safety—a place where the young inherit what came before them.
  • Though created digitally, the illustration was designed to capture the organic qualities of handmade ceramics and watercolor, with layered color, subtle variation, and the feeling of pigment alive on the surface.
  •  Their meadow. Their land.
