DESCRIPTION
- Watan presents a new series of high-resolution, original prints that we hope people will enjoy (because we do enjoy being tongue-in-cheek hehe): the Palestinian Shade Series. While perusing countless pictures--through the time of the British Mandate, the Nakba, and everything moving forward--we found various examples of Palestinian womxn who seemed to be (as the current turn of phrase states) "throwing shade".
- The Arabic roughly translates to: "God give you a thousand blessings". In positive settings, the speaker probably wishes you the best of luck and health, etc. But in negative settings (i.e. when a womxn is throwing shade at, for example, some instance of mansplaining), the speaker is likely sarcastically thanking you for your advice or help that wasn't requested. HENCE, THE SHADE.
- The background is a hand-drawn and vectorized take on a traditional Palestinian tatreez (embroidery) feather pattern.
