This masjid sculpture is a simplified rendition of the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem--which is part of the Al-Aqsa compound and is one of the holiest sites in Islam. Thus, it is the duty of every Muslim to hold Jerusalem (and all of Palestine) as close to our hearts and minds all year round, not simply during the month of Ramadan.
Due to the occupation, Palestinians are highly restricted from accessing this holiest of sites--often times, they are outright denied and can only access the site at an elderly age.
Here, we introduce a softened, monochromatic version of the Dome of the Rock for your home. Many of us may have grown up with miniature, colorful models of the Dome of the Rock in our home (ours was in the form of an alarm clock). May your children grow up with the same experience. :)
